Today we read a book called "A chick grows up." We learned a lot of interesting stuff. Did you know that a boy chicken is called a rooster and a girl chicken is called a Hen? And did you know that when a baby chick first hatches out of it's shell it's all wet, but it doesn't take very long to get dry and fluffy! We also learned that it can sometimes take a chick a full day to hatch out of it's egg. At the end of our book we made a life cycle paper plate, it highlighted some important days in the growth of the chicks inside their eggs. Check out our pictures below...
On day 1 the baby chick begins with a small white patch within the yellow yolk |
On day 16 the baby chick will be born soon because it is getting too big and running out of food |
On day 19 the chick begins to hatch when it breaks into its air cell and takes its first breath |
On day 21 the chick hatches! |
On day 6 there are two wings, two legs, and a beak! |
