A chick grows up

Today we read a book called "A chick grows up." We learned a lot of interesting stuff. Did you know that a boy chicken is called a rooster and a girl chicken is called a Hen? And did you know that when a baby chick first hatches out of it's shell it's all wet, but it doesn't take very long to get dry and fluffy! We also learned that it can sometimes take a chick a full day to hatch out of it's egg. At the end of our book we made a life cycle paper plate, it highlighted some important days in the growth of the chicks inside their eggs. Check out our pictures below...

On day 1 the baby chick begins with a small white patch within the yellow yolk

On day 16 the baby chick will be born soon because it is getting too big and running out of food

On day 19 the chick begins to hatch when it breaks into its air cell and takes its first breath

On day 21 the chick hatches!

On day 6 there are two wings, two legs, and a beak!
