Today was the first day of our chick hatching unit. We talked about important vocabulary words that we will hear throughout the next month. Here are the words we learned: Egg tooth, embryo, hatch, yolk, and down. Scroll through our pictures to learn the meanings of each word.

Eggtooth: A little point on the tip of a chick's beak that helps it to break the shell of its egg.

| Embryo: The first stage in the growth of the chicken inside the egg. |

| Down: The feathers that cover the chick's body. |
